LANGUAGE DISORDERS -

COMPLEMENTARY METHODS

General overview
  • Talk Tools is a method developed by Sara Rosenfeld-Johnson, an American pathologist to help children with problems with motor and communication oral functions.

  • The SENEZ method was founded by Catherine Senez, a speech therapist specializing in swallowing. In 2009, it created the Association Oralité Déglution (AOD formation) to meet the needs of speech and language therapists to be trained in new fields of competence such as the care of children affected by sensory dysorality

  • The natural dynamics of Word (D.N.P) is a playful and artistic "pedagogy" created by Madeleine Dunoyer de Ségonzac to allow children to "feel, see and touch" all the elements of speech. The pedagogy is inspired by Petar Guberina's Verbo-tonal method, Ginette Martenot's method and the writings of anthropologist Marcel Jousse.

  • The Prompt method (Resctructured Oral Muscular Phonetic Tagets) is a language re-education method that aims to provide sensory signals to the lips, cheeks and tongue to help the patient feel the correct placement of his mouth for each sound and each word

  • Dr. Gisèle Gelbert's method for aphasic type disorders

  • The Lidcombe method for stuttering

Main objectives of the method
  • The primary objective of the Talk Tools method is a specific oral placement therapy that does not replace other therapies, so the primary objective is to teach motor planning as a pre-verbal skill and to develop sensory feedback.

  • The objectives of the SENEZ method are to lead to habituation and desensitization of the sensory nerve to allow a decrease in defensive reactivity to bouncing. This will eventually allow children and adults to expand their food choices.

  • The natural dynamics of Speech (D.N.P) allows the patient to feel how speech is anchored in the body in order to find in oneself the movements that generate speech in a form of playful and artistic dynamics. The objective is to enrich, accompany and support the construction of language in children through rhythm, artistic expression and nursery rhymes in order to promote the emergence of speech.

Specificities of the method
  • Talk Tools is a highly structured program that covers motor planning (positioning of lips, jaw and tongue), sensory awareness (feeling of organ movements and positioning), posture. The work around oral motor skills is essentially carried out on the jaw, lip and tongue according to three concepts: dissociation, condition and fixation.

  • The SENEZ method is practiced in the form of very regular massages. The objective is to massage the gums, palate and tongue at least seven times a day for at least seven months.

  • The DNP provides parents with tools to support their children on a daily basis to give them a solid foundation, essential reference points to structure their speech and enter the learning of reading and writing. Body expression and bilateralism are at the heart of the program to help children discover the pleasure of writing and develop their fine psychomotricity.

Who is this method for ?
  • The Talk Tools method is designed for children with trisomy 21, cerebral palsy, autism, dyspraxia, eating disorders and/or dysphagia and rarer syndromes such as Angelman syndrome and Rett syndrome.

  • The SENEZ method is intended for all people suffering from sensory dysorality syndrome.

  • The DNP is aimed at all children with written and oral expression difficulties.

What parents say about it

"The discovery of Talk Tools yesterday went very well. Caesar was very cooperative despite the 2 hours of evaluation! We will have the rehabilitation program within a month and already have advice to implement. »

Mother of Caesar

"Today I have been doing massages for a little over a year and I have gone from 3-4 massages a day. We'll stop in June. From the very first massages, I felt a change in Sacha. Of course, he didn't eat "normally". But he wanted to taste it and he was able to put a word in on his food problem. With the speech therapist we often bring back new things to taste. That's how she taught him to chew well. »
