Massage, Tui Na, Kabat, Qigong Sensory Treatment (QST), Niromatherapy, Dermo Neuro Modulation (DNM).
General overview
Massages are often used to relieve pain or reduce the effects of stress. They bring an improvement in mood and a sense of well-being. In the therapeutic setting, they are often useful as a complement to conventional treatments.
The massage can have a calming or stimulating effect, depending on the direction you wish to give it. Under the skin are many sensory nerve endings. One could say that these are all mini receptors that react considerably to tactile interactions.

Main objectives of the method
Tui Na massages: these are energetic Chinese therapeutic massages that require many (more than 300) different manipulations. The objective of these messages, derived from traditional Chinese medicine, is mainly to treat disorders of joint or nervous origin while seeking to revitalize the body. Thus, some therapists recommend it in the case of patients suffering from Parkinson's, fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis, etc.
Kabat: it is a method, also called neuromuscular facilitation by proprioception, which uses sensory and proprioceptive information to excite and activate the nervous system, which in response makes the entire musculature react. It is therefore sensorimotor reprogramming that aims at a global re-education of the body. This method allows a great recovery of the nerve fibre.
Qigong (QST): Chinese soft gym that contributes to an improvement in flexibility, a reduction in stress and a development of balance. A daily practice (15 to 30 minutes per day) and over the long term (2 years) allows a regulation of the sensory system, to be present to oneself, to feel better in one's body and in the environment. In patients with autism, an adaptation of the qigong helps to develop a better connection with others. Studies have shown that children with ASD have abnormalities and dysfunctions in the tactile sensory process and experience less pleasure and comfort in sensory contact (e.g. with their parents). However, qigong can be used to work on recreating this tactile sensitivity in particular, as well as the weaker proprioception (internal body and spatial perception).
Dermo neuro modulation: this method starts from the observation that all pain is the expression of the nervous system. It is defined by Erik Ouellet (massage therapist and osteopath from Quebec) as "a manual therapy method used to influence the state of the sensitive and painful nervous system in order to bring it to a less painful and reactive state". In addition, she works from a bio-psycho-social perspective on patient-practitioner interaction. This means that the method is above all centred around the patient.
What parents say about it
These different methods have received positive feedback from users but have not yet been proven in clinical trials.
Louisa Silva, a researcher on the benefits of QST massage, explains that "if autism develops because of a loss of touch, then QST massage should help reduce autistic disorders."
