Bowen Technique
General overview
The Bowen technique is a gentle manual therapy developed in the 1970s, certified since 1987. It is a gentle treatment, which acts on the surface with simple gestures. Similarly, the Bowen technique is based on the idea that the body has a self-healing mechanism that sometimes needs to be stimulated, and that a dysfunction in one part of the body can affect the whole body.

Main objectives of the method
The basic principles are similar to those that are at the foundation of osteopathy. Like craniosacral therapy and fasciatherapy, the goal of the Bowen technique is to restore the body's balance and allow it to heal itself. Muscles, tendons, nerves and fascia are at the heart of the method. The Bowen technique does not aim to treat a particular problem, but rather to facilitate the body's ability to establish a recovery mechanism, for example, following an illness.
Specificities of the method
Unlike many methods, the Bowen technique is applied in absolute calm. To obtain better effects, the absence of external stimuli would be indispensable. Then, every 3 or 4 manipulations, the practitioner will leave a few minutes for the patient's body to integrate the information it has just received.
The manipulations are done with the help of the thumbs. The therapist will exert pressure on a sensitive point, perpendicular to the fibres of this point, and then release it with a sharp blow. Each movement will be performed symmetrically on both sides of the body. Generally, the first part of the session is a general treatment, the second is more specific to the patient's needs. As with osteopathy, the body may need several days to internalize the session. It is therefore not recommended to use other methods in the days following a session. A session lasts less than an hour.
Who is this method for ?
The technique is intended for people wishing to speed up their recovery from illness, people suffering from musculoskeletal pain, children with enuresis, digestive or respiratory problems. Finally, it is suitable for restless children, suffering from sleep disorders, emotional trauma, and hyperactivity.
What parents say about it
Significant improvements in the symptoms of many childhood illnesses and problems have been reported by parents. These improvements include better posture and movement coordination, better balance and increased concentration and well-being. Parents are always allowed to stay in the room during the session.
